First Reading: Exodus 19:2-8

2After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. 3Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, 'This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. 5Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.' 7So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the LORD had commanded him to speak. 8The people all responded together, 'We will do everything the LORD has said.' So Moses brought their answer back to the LORD.

Psalm: 119:145-152

145I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD, and I will obey your decrees. 146I call out to you; save me and I will keep your statutes. 147I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word. 148My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. 149Hear my voice in accordance with your love; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your laws. 150Those who devise wicked schemes are near, but they are far from your law. 151Yet you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true. 152Long ago I learned from your statutes that you established them to last forever.

Epistle: 1 John 4:7-12

7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Gospel: John 12:20-26

20Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast. 21They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. 'Sir,' they said, 'we would like to see Jesus.' 22Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. 23Jesus replied, 'The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 25The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
